Summary: The U.S. Embassy in Kinshasa is seeking eligible and qualified applicants for the position of Boat Pilot/Chauffeur in the Motor Pool Section.

The work schedule for this position is: Full Time (40 number of hours per week)

Duties

Basic Function of Position

Incumbent serves as motor pool chauffeur and must drive any Post vehicle including medium and heavy trucks as requested. Also operates Embassy boat between Kinshasa and Brazzaville. Responsible for identifying issues with the boat and coordinating their repair.

Major Duties and Responsibilities

Transports Mission staff and family members and VIP visitors in the city and surrounding areas. Responsible for security and safety of passengers; observes all traffic laws; remains alert to unusual situations and takes evasive action as appropriate. 
Operates the boats to transport Embassy staff and authorized travelers, mail, and goods to/from Brazzaville and Kinshasa.  
Performs daily inspection of vehicle/boats; is alert to possible tampering or damage. Inspects for defects and makes minor repairs as required. Reports deficiencies that require repair to supervisor. Performs preventive maintenance daily. 
Records daily vehicle usage information and provides data for the monthly and annual vehicle reports. Cleans vehicle inside and out; checks fluids, tire pressure, air filters, etc. Insures garage repairs are done to keep vehicle in safe mechanical condition. 
Cleans and maintains the boat; coordinates and oversees necessary boat repairs as needed.

Qualifications and Evaluations

Requirements: EXPERIENCE: Two years of chauffeur, of which at least one year must have been in a USG (or equivalent) agency. And one year of pilot experience are required

Education Requirements: Completion of elementary school is required. Gardening/agricultural training is required.

Evaluations: This is may be tested :

LANGUAGE: Level II English (Limited) is required. Level II (Good working knowledge) French required. Lingala level III is required.

SKILLS AND ABILITIES: Must have a valid local driver's license ABCD, and ability to drive both manual and automatic transmissions. Mechanical ability to identify vehicle malfunctions and perform minor repairs and maintenance is required. Capability to exercise driving skills under strain and stress in situations requiring special precautions or evasive action to protect passengers is required.

Locally Employed Staff, including Members of Household (MOHs), and Third-Country Nationals (TCNs), working at the U.S. Embassy in Kinshasa may receive a compensation package that may include health, separation, and other benefits.

For EFMs, benefits should be discussed with the Human Resources Office.

The pay plan is assigned at the time of the conditional offer letter by the HR Office.
