Position title: Campaign Coordination Officer
Reports to: Head of Extractives WWF DRC (with a technical line to WWF International Head of Campaigns)
Position length: 12 months
Grade: A3
Location: Kinshasa
I. Mission of the Department
WWF will launch an emergency global conservation campaign focused on the Democratic Republic of Congo (DRC). The WWF offices in DRC (Kinshasa and Goma) will play a critical role in supporting the WWF Network while also serving to coordinate the actions of INGOs, NGOs and Civil Society in the country.
II. Major Functions
This position will be responsible for supporting Civil Society coordination, local, national and international advocacy and generating media content for the campaign to be used within the DRC as well as globally.
She/he will serve as primary focal point for media, both national and international, based in the country while also coordination community outreach/sensitization with key partner organizations both in Kinshasa and Goma.
III. Major Duties and Responsibilities
- Work on strategy for dissemination of advocacy messaging in Kinshasa/Goma.
- Develop and coordinates the media & communication strategy for the DRC.
- Work closely with civil society, and both local and international NGOs to coordinate campaign actions and to ensure we are actively engaging the voice of the communities.
- Map out the key media and public critical for success of the campaign objectives.
- Support the global campaign team and work in close collaboration with our key offices in the network.
- Generate human interest stories (written, film, and photo) highlighting how people are living in harmony with the affected area and disseminate that content to the WWF network and, when appropriate, the media on a monthly basis.
- Develop weekly updates on the campaign for internal and key partners.
IV. Profile
Required Qualifications
- Advanced degree in appropriate field ( social communication, journalism or related field).
- At least five years of multi-disciplinary communications experience in DRC, including in a high-profile non-government organization, preferably with campaign experience.
- Demonstrated experience in communicating complex issues in an accessible and persuasive way to a wide variety of audiences at all levels using diverse channels (TV, print, radio, web, etc.).
Required Skills and Competencies
- Understands local economic and social dynamics in Goma.
- Knowledgeable on Civil Society, NGO and political dynamics in Kinshasa.
- Proven ability to use and develop effective tools for communicating to local community and civil society groups.
- Well versed in the use of a variety of communication tools, channels and tactics, including digital and social media.
- Strong leadership abilities.
- Proven track record of working effectively with partners at the national level.
- Strategic thinker who can quickly and flexibly adapt campaign strategy.
- Have a network of media actors (journalists, tv stations etc.) in Kinshasa/ DRC.
- Self-starter with the ability to work quickly and efficiently to meet tight deadlines in and out of office hours.
- Fluency in written and verbal French, fluency in verbal Kiswahili and Lingala.
- Able to communicate internally within WWF (written and verbal) in English.
- Understanding of conservation challenges within the DRC.
- Willing to travel up to 50% of the time (primarily national travel with the potential for some international trips).
