Capacity Building Officer
The World Wildlife Fund (WWF) is involved in an ambitious conservation programme in the Congo Bassin, partially financed by USAID. The present finance phase of USAID, called CAFEC (Central African Forest Ecosystem Conservation) has as objective to preserve the integrity of the humid forest ecosystems in the Congo Basin, over a period of 5 years (2013-2018).
In the Democratic Republic of the Congo (RDC), WWF manages its programme in 4 Landscapes: Lac Tumba, Salonga, Itombwe and Virungas. These landscapes contain a high biological diversity and are of exceptional value. The conservation of its species, ecosystems at ecological processes is of high importance for the RDC and for all humanity.
On the other hand, severe threats exist not only on these universally recognized landscapes but also on the initiatives of sustainable management of the natural resources of the Congo Basin. This programme is associated to ICCN, several conservation NGOs and also to other financial partners.
Headquarters of WWF for CAFEC are at Kinshasa, which is also the work place.
The Capacity building Officer will be responsible for the capacity building of staff, partners and beneficiaries of the CAFEC project. He/she assess the training needs of the communities, individuals, partners’ and CAFEC’s staff and identifies relevant training institutions and the individuals as useful resources.
Location:
The position is based in Kinshasa (Democratic Republic of Congo).
Main responsibilities:
- Implement the project activities related to training according to the project’s activity plans, maintain quality and timely outputs.
- Identify relevant training and capacity building needs of WWF staff, partners and beneficiaries
- Develop capacity building action plans and training strategies in agreement with the project’s strategies;
- Develop tools to assess capacity and identification and planning of opportunities to meet staff needs (including potential short term training courses, academic courses, observational tours, distant learning experiences, etc.) Adaption of existing USAID tool s for assessing impacts of capacity building to the CAFEC programme.
- Assist in/ liaise with recognized agencies or institutions to develop international standard training programs;
- Conduct trainings, awareness raising field trips and organize workshops for all beneficiaries on relevant project activities;
- Develop manuals and education, awareness and extension materials, such as lessons learned papers, case studies etc. for sharing experiences and information on the project with partners, visitors, stakeholders, beneficiaries and the donor;
- Work with DRC Senior management to ensure that support costs are sufficiently budgeted and correctly implemented.
- Conduct a training for results based management for designated stakeholders;
- Prepare simple training brochures for field distribution, in the local language.
What you need:
Required Qualifications
- A minimum of 7 years of practical experience in capacity building (training & development) preferable in conservation or development organizations,
- A minimum a M.Sc. in one of the following fields: social science, international relations, public administration or equivalent.
Required Skills and Competencies
- Experience in partnership building, especially between conservation and development related organizations.
- Experience in designing training curricula and delivery of trainings.
- Good knowledge and experience of participatory approaches in programme/project development and implementation
- Excellent social, communication skills and ability to motivate group work and interactions amongst participants.
- Ability to lead strategic planning, results-based management and reporting.
- Strong relationships with clients focus on impact and result for the client and positive response to feedback.
- Strong communication and analytical skills and fluent in both spoken and written English and French.
- Knowledge and skills in basic computing and relevant computer software.
- Demonstrated experience in developing, implementing and evaluating strategic plans.
