Organizational Setting and reporting line

This position is located within the Radio Okapi, with duty station, Kinshasa. The incumbent reports to the Chief of Radio Okapi

Responsibilities:

Make deliveries of parcels, documents, etc., between the office and other offices and institutions, e.g. Ministries, Embassies, Permanent Missions, etc.
Make minor purchases and collect urgent purchases from local suppliers as requested. Collect goods from the customs with due regard to customs regulations and formalities; May make or collect payment for goods;
Drive vehicles safely for the transport of authorized personnel for the transport of general cargo goods;
Collect and deliver of mail, documents, and other items;
Meet official personnel at the airport and facilitate immigration formalities and customs formalities, if necessary;
Deal effectively and tactfully with officials and visitors;
Take care of the day-to-day maintenance of the assigned vehicles, check oil, water, battery, brakes, tires, etc.; perform minor repairs and arranges for other repairs and ensures that vehicle is kept clean;
Perform VIP and Standby Driver duties;
Assist the workshop in the preparation of trucks for field trips, such as changing wheels, cleaning air filters, and general check-over;
Log fuel consumption, maintenance etc.
Ensure that the steps required by rules and regulations are taken in case of accident;
Act as a team lead; assigns tasks/ shifts to junior drivers.
Participate in the field report and produce the report on behalf of the editorial team if the need arises;
Perform other duties as assigned.

Education:  

High school diploma or equivalent is required. Certificate of Technical or Professional Training in Transport is an Advantage. Knowledge of auto mechanics is an advantage. A valid driver’s license Category A is required.

Experience:

A minimum of two (2) years of progressively responsible experience in the provision of driver services. Experience in driving a variety of makes and models of vehicles, including vans and other kinds of motorised vehicles. Experience in UN Common System is desirable.

Language: 

                     English and French are the working languages of the United Nations Secretariat. For the post advertised, fluency in oral and written French is required. Basic Knowledge of English is an advantage. 

Assessment Method

Evaluation of qualified candidates may include an assessment exercise or competency base interview or both.
