OPERATIONS MANAGER, HOPE DRC
Job Description

REPORTS TO: Managing Director, HOPE DRC
LOCATION: Lubumbashi, Democratic Republic of Congo
JOB SUMMARY
The Operations Manager is responsible for all of the loans and client management activities of HOPE DRC and reports directly to the Managing Director. The Operations Manager is responsible to manage all operations staff, including Loan Supervisors and Loan Officers, in order to ensure that the appropriate systems and controls are in place to monitor and report on loan portfolio performance and support the achievement of HOPE Congo’s mission. He/she shall also prepare goals and objectives that identify and address key issues relating to portfolio growth, such as exploring new marketing avenues identifying new clients, setting up new groups in preparation for the disbursal of new loans.

SPECIFIC RESPONSIBILITIES

Ensure that the operations of the institution are consistent with the objectives, spiritual integration plans and values of the institution
Invest deeply in the spiritual lives of the operations staff, seeking to make disciples and model true servant-leadership
Demonstrate Christ’s love to clients and stakeholders through daily interactions and other HOPE Congo special events
Quality
Ensure HOPE provides its customers the best possible product by proposing innovations, product improvements, and policies to improve customer satisfaction.
Rigorously see to the improvement of the image and effectiveness of HOPE through recommendations, innovations and reductions in operational costs.
Maintain the highest standards of portfolio quality
Troubleshoot problems encountered with Community Banks and make period visits to help solve difficult cases
Provide daily and weekly reports to the HOPE Congo management team regarding the health and activity of the loan portfolio
Verify that all credit applications are properly completed
Master the contents and procedures as written in the operations manual
Ensure policies and procedures are fully implemented in all aspects of operations
Maintain accurate records of all loan application files and related transactions in the office
Directly supervise all members of the operations team
Combat internal and external fraud, while monitoring field operations with weekly field visits
Participate in recruitment and ongoing training of all operations staff according to the policies and procedures of HOPE
Evaluate regularly the performance of team members and control their work according to standards and practices of the institution
Facilitate communication between team members and the office in case of emergency and implement the policies of the Safety Manual.
Growth
Achieve the planned growth according to the annual plan
Facilitate the planning and formation of new Community Banks
Provide weekly projections for planned disbursements of funds
Promote the institution to potential clients within target communities, among government officials, colleagues and the institution.
Organize the replacement of the loan officer in case of illness or emergency leave.
Performing all other tasks as assigned by the Managing Director in order to accomplish the mission of the institution
QUALIFICATIONS:
Personal confession of faith in Jesus Christ and commitment to the mission and vision of HOPE International;
Minimum of 5-10 years of experience in microfinance, banking or financial services sector, preferably in Africa or other developing nation;
Excellent analytical and problem identification and problem-solving skills;
Extreme flexibility and ability to cope with stressful situations and frustrations;
Demonstrated desire to help people that have been brought low by war, poverty, or other circumstances regain hope, dignity, and the ability to support themselves and their families;
Creativity and ability to work with limited resources;
Ability to relate to and motivate local staff effectively;
High level of proficiency with Microsoft Office Suite, including Word, Excel, and PowerPoint required;
Experience with Loan Performer or other banking software packages is strongly recommended;
Considerable skill in effective verbal and written communications, including active listening skills and skill in presenting findings and recommendations;
Strong English and French language proficiencies
