Responsibilities:
Under the responsibilities of the Gender Advisor, the incumbent will be responsible for the following duties:
Description of Duties:
- Assists in organizing meetings with Civil Society, the Media, Government and other partners and takes notes for reports.
- Follows relations with MONUSCO Gender Focal Points, at Kinshasa and in the Sectors
- Establishes links with local women’s networks and other relevant partners in Civil Society including women’s groups and associations and presents issues of Gender Office as requested.
- Facilitates meetings with Civil Society.
- Undertakes research on Gender Issues and disseminates materials to partners in Civil Society.
- Writes articles on Gender issues as and when necessary.
- Identifies pertinent documentation for Gender Office priorities for distribution to partners and Civil Society Networks.
- Carries out research in issues relating to the Gender Office priorities.
- Receives and processes information relating to Gender office and informs the Gender Advisor and staff of Gender Office accordingly for appropriate action.
- Gives Gender Training on Gender Issues to military, UNPOL and Civilians in the Mission when the need arises.
- Participates if necessary to Joint Protection Teams Missions
- Sets up and maintains a data base of Civil Society and other relevant partners of the Gender Office.
- Performs administrative and secretarial and other duties as requested, in the absence of the Administrative & Budget Assistant.

Technological Awareness: Fully proficient in MS Office applications (Excel, Word,) and other IT applications.
Teamwork: Good interpersonal skills; ability to work in a multi-cultural, multi-ethnic environment with sensitivity and respect for diversity. Demonstrated ability to develop and maintain effective work relationships with budget/finance, human resource counterparts, and client departments.
Communication: Ability to write in a clear and concise manner and to communicate effectively.
Qualification and Experience:
- Education: High School Diploma is the requirement.
Experience:
- A minimum of 5 years of work experience within the UN System or in other related fields experience with UN Agencies is an advantage.
Languages: English and French are the working languages of the United Nations Secretariat. For the post advertised, fluency in spoken and written English and French is required. Knowledge of local languages is an asset.
Other Skills: Proficiency in computer systems including spreadsheet applications, database management and processing required.
