Position: Spécialiste, Stepping Stones Approach

Context
Communication for Change (C-Change) is a multisectoral project working in social and behavior change communication for health in the Democratic Republic of the Congo (DRC). Implemented by FHI 360 (Family Health International 360) with support from the United States Agency for International Development (USAID), the C-Change/DRC project provides technical support in social and behavior change communication (SBCC) to the Ministry of Health and other partners working in the area of integrated primary health care at the national and health zone level in the DRC.
C-Change/DRC works in the in the following areas: improvement of the quality and efficiency of interventions, programs, and educational materials related to SBCC; institutional support; capacity strengthening of partners operating in the field of integrated primary health care. The ultimate goal of C-Change/DRC is to contribute to the improvement of health and well-being of populations.
C-Change/DRC seeks to recruit a Specialist in the Stepping Stones Approach. The post is based in Kinshasa with travel to different provinces.
Position Description
Under the direct supervision of the Chief of Party (COP) of C-Change DRC, the Specialist shall be responsible for developing a training strategy for relais communautaires, accompanying relais communautaires in the implementation of the Stepping Stones approach at the community level, and responsible for monitoring and evaluation. He/she will work closely with the National Coordinator of the GBV/HIV program and the two Provincial Coordinators in Kinshasa and Kisangani (Province Orientale).
Specific responsibilities
Specific responsibilities include but are not limited to:
- Planning various training sessions and adjusting the different sessions according to the needs of participants;
- ;
- Developing tools and technical handouts required for training;
- Preparing technical documentation, including audiovisual supports useful in the assimilation and implementation of the Stepping Stones approach in target health zones in Kinshasa and Province Orientale;
- Monitoring relais communautaires in the field target health zones in Kinshasa and Province Orientale;
- Evaluating the Stepping Stones approach with members of the community in target health zones in Kinshasa and Province Orientale;
- Participating in the preparation of monthly and quarterly reports for the GBV/HIV component ensuring that all activities related to the Stepping Stones approach are included in the reports;
- At the request of the Chief of Party, execute other administrative or operational tasks within the scope of Stepping Stones activities of the C-Change/DRC project.
Qualifications
- At least three years of solid and proven experience as a training in the Stepping Stones approach;
- Familiarity with participatory methods of community mobilization and Stepping Stones approach;
- Solid and proven experience in participatory education for adults;
- Capacity in management of human relations;
- Ability to discuss sexual issues in public, adopting a straightforward approach to these issues without embarrassment, but instead with sensitivity while maintaining confidentiality;
- Ability to interact face to face without prejudice, in an emphatic manner, refraining from judgment;
- Solid knowledge of essential facts related to HIV transmission, essential facts related to sexual and gender-based violence (SGBV);
- Solid knowledge of SBCC approaches;
- Knowledge and sound understanding of problems related to the relationships between men and women (in Province Orientale and in the city of Kinshasa);
- Ability to conduct basic training in sexual health;
- Proven organizational skills and ability to manage multiple tasks with a high degree of accuracy; high attention to detail, and complete work in a timely manner;
- Experience working with USAID, or USG-funded programs preferred;
- Prepare/draft reports and other documents;
- Ability to work independently and as part of a team in a supportive work environment, respect standards and procedures;
- Demonstrate strong interpersonal and cross-cultural communication skills;
- Demonstrate initiative and creativity and a problem-solving attitude: know how to anticipate situations, identify problems and propose alternative solutions;
- Ability to adapt, as well as a strong interest in the C-Change/DRC areas of intervention.
Language skills:
- Fluency in French and one of the languages spoken by the communities in Province Orientale and the city of Kinshasa (written and oral) is required; and
- Fluency in English (written and oral); a major plus.
